Upon curing, hot-melt edge-banding adhesives typically form an irreversible bond-such as that produced by thermosetting adhesive films or PUR adhesives that crosslink through moisture reaction. They exhibit both high initial bond strength and high ultimate bond strength. Their general physicochemical properties include excellent heat resistance (e.g., >150°C), low-temperature resistance, water resistance, and chemical resistance. Certain products also possess specific characteristics such as mold resistance, resistance to thermal cycling, and resistance to swelling when immersed in water. Typical physical parameters for specific products include a white granular appearance, a solid content of 100%, a viscosity range of 66,000–82,000 cps at 220°C, and a softening point (Ring-and-Ball method) of 106–116°C.

Based on application, these adhesives can be categorized into three types: edge-banding adhesives, profile-wrapping adhesives, and assembly adhesives. Based on operating temperature, they can be classified into low-temperature, medium-temperature, and high-temperature adhesives. Generally, manual edge-banding machines utilize low-to-medium temperature adhesives; small-scale automatic straight-line edge-banding machines employ medium-temperature adhesives; while medium-to-large-scale automatic straight-line edge-banding machines require high-temperature adhesives.
